Items for Sale

Pictured below are various handmade articles that are for sale. Each item was created by a member of the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, their friends, or their family. All of the proceeds from the sale of these items will be donated to Romanian Children's Relief and will benefit abandoned children in Romania. About the Project

Romanian Children's Relief (RCR) is both a Romanian and American organization that provides services in Romania for abandoned children. During communism in Romania, which ended in the early 1990s, a large number of children were abandoned by their parents. The abandoned children were frequently institutionalized in orphanages that were underfunded and understaffed. All too often, these children experienced horrible living conditions and, as a result, developed significant physical and developmental problems. Today, far fewer children are abandoned, but those who are often have special needs including autism, mental retardation, physical disabilities, and HIV. RCR improves the lives of children by providing them and their foster families with counseling, training, physical therapy, advocacy, equipment, home visits and monthly support groups. This past summer, our group of ten Boston College Graduate School of Social Work students, along with our professor, Betty Blythe, visited Romania to learn about its child and social welfare system. While in Romania, the group volunteered at RCR and had the opportunity to interact with the children and the dedicated staff in their facility. We found that while RCR has received numerous awards and national recognition for their work, they are facing serious financial problems. The group decided to attempt to raise money for RCR so that they might continue to serve these children and families.

We have engaged the craftiness of our friends, family, and fellow students to create the handmade designs featured on this website. All of the items were made so that they could be sold to raise money for Romanian Children's Relief. Please consider purchasing an item!
